Howlite was discovered in 1868, in Nova Scotia by Canadian chemist, geologist, mineralogist, and scientist, Henry How! Soon after, it was dubbed its name by geologist James Dwight Dana!

It is a calcium borosilicate hydroxide, which is a borate mineral found in evaporite deposits. This means that is comes from a sedimentary rock (such as gypsum) that originates by evaporation of seawater in an enclosed basin.

Some interesting things are believed about the metaphysical properties of howlite as well! It has been claimed to be a very spiritual stone that helps ease insomnia as well as aiding the user in achieving peacefulness, clarity, and focus.
